Description:

The values organizations espouse potentially set standards that help direct attention and behavior. Yet putting values into practice can be challenging. Leveraging our research with Great Place to Work® companies this workshop explores the kinds of values that have the potential to drive diversity and inclusion.  We will explore what we learned about how companies describe such values. At the same time, we will open the door to other questions. Might some espoused values ever have the unintended effect of undermining inclusion? How might inclusion principles serve as the foundation for putting values into practice? What are new workforce entrants looking for in terms of organizational values? What are empowering ways for all of us to talk about values in the workplace?

Peter G. Dominick, Teaching Professor in the School of Business at Stevens Institute of Technology, is the Academic Program Coordinator for graduate management programs and Director of the School’s Technical leadership Executive Education program. His teaching, research and consulting focuses on leader and leadership development. During his career at Stevens, he has developed and delivered numerous leadership development programs especially targeted toward technical professionals. These include projects funded by the Department of Defense, ExxonMobil, NASA, BAE, and IBM. He has received distinguished teaching honors from the University on several occasions and his writing and research have received special recognition awards from the New Jersey Business and Industry Association, the Journal of Behavioral and Applied Management and the Academy of Human Resource Development. His most recent publication on the espoused values of Great Place to Work companies appears in the Journal of Business Ethics.
